You guys – I am so excited to report that the 2014 edition of the “Keeping it Together” planner is almost here. I’m not even supposed to be showing you these “homemade” photos but I could not resist. We made so many great improvements to the book this year and I’m so proud of the final product that I want to scream.

I’ll highlight just a few for you today and then post again when “professional” photos are in and I have an exact ship date.

* First of all the size is smaller this year. We moved to an 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 size. You can see from the above photo when compared to last years book – its a lot smaller and easier to carry. This change was based on feedback from 2013 so thank you to everyone who submitted input.

* Also – the daily format has changed a bit. We still make productivity a priority, along with gratitude and kindness but this year we modified the food tracker concept so its modifiable and can be used when YOU need it. While keeping a daily food record is an invaluable tool for weight loss and maintenance we didn’t want it to be an everyday obsession. We have made the food record very flexible and its presented in a unique way I know your going to love.

* And a great addition to the planner this year is the weekly menu planner. Thats something new this year and will really help those of us who like to plan meals and shopping ahead for the week.

There are lots of other little tweaks and improvements – and some fun “freebies” too. But you’ll have to wait a few more days to hear all about those.

Here’s something to consider… Elizabeth Somer, R.D. reminds us in her book Eat Your Way to Happiness that foods rich in magnesium may help fight anxiety. Lower levels of magnesium have been associated with an increase in stress. The RDA is about 320 mg/day for most women. Since anxiety is something I battle often I am reminding myself that I like alot of foods that contain high levels of magnesuim like: nuts and seeds, leafy greens like broccoli, whole grain brown rice, beans, soy and DARK CHOCOLATE. Helloooooo!!!

We made it to the middle – halfway towards the weekend. Why not take a moment today to make someone smile and perhaps help them over whatever “hump” is present in their lives? I’ll even offer a few suggestions…

Pay the toll for the car behind you

Share your coupons with another shopper in the store

Put your extra change in the tip jar when you are at the coffee shop/yogurt place, etc

Offer a cold water to the guys mowing your lawn

Tape a “thank you” note to your garbage cans – trash collectors don’t get much love!

Trade a text message to a friend or relative for an actual phone call!

There you go – easy ways to make someone else’s day – and your own – better!

Friday here we come….

 

Focusing on the Good!

Okay so the last week has been a whirlwind for me. Life threw me a curveball in the shape of some family drama. All families go through challenging times so I wont bore you with details – I’m sure you all can relate to “family stress”. For now – things have resolved on my end so I am very happy and relieved to get back on track.  Its interesting how stressful events can bring to light some very important facts – for instance:

1. Family comes first!

2. Your To-Do list can wait – most of that crap isnt really important in light of #1 above.

3. You are stronger than you think!

4. This too shall pass… although surely not as soon as you would like!

Time for an update on our little remodel project I mentioned a week or so ago. You may recall we are re-doing our “mudroom”. Well, its almost done and the built-in organizer cabinet I helped the Finish Carpenter design turned out fabulous. I am so over the moon about it. Scott did a wonderful job as he always does and I thought you might like to see some photos.

Right now the cabinet is painted a lovely off white base.  But we are working on some faux painting ideas to jazz up the exterior a bit. Also, the remaining walls of the mudroom are getting some chalk paint. When thats all completed I’ll take some more fun photos to share. I cant wait for the grand finale’ – I think its going to turn out awesome.

 

Want to see something else pretty? I ordered the cutest flip flops for my daughter and me. They are from Flip Out Sandals – www.flipoutsandals.com. Its a california based company that sells flip flops you can customize with various snaps that screw in at the top of the toe separator. We ordered a pink pair for both of us and an additional black pair for her. Then we got three different snaps that match with either pink or black. They are so cute and we love the fact that we can be match-matchy! Before long she surely wont want to wear anything that matches mom so I am thrilled we can enjoy these together this summer. The shoes were not very expensive – about $24.00 each. Not to bad considering they are very unique and pretty. Plus – with the various snaps you can create several looks with just one shoe.
